Ways To Wear Leopard

(Bodycon: Oasap, Shorts: Zara, Heels: Topshop, Socks: Marks & Spencer) Bodycon: adj. denoting a style of clothing characterized by very tight-fitting garments. I decided to do a "ways to wear" post today since I haven't updated for a while because of MUN last week. This bodycon leopard shirt I got from Oasap, an online retail shop for women. It was at $25 when I got it - SUPER CHEAP. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it, and felt like it would be a great piece to add to my closet. Since the pattern are quite big, I think this dress will be able to make your whole outfit subtle as well as bold, depending on how you style it. It's super stretchy as well. Here are 3 ways (to inspire) you guys on how to wear a leopard bodycon dress:  And here are other inspiration - I've been finding leopard bodycon dresses on a few celebrities: source: stylelist, huffington post, soompi

Don't forget to check out Oasap and look at all their great pieces! - click HERE.

On The Contrary

(Dress: Topshop, Sweater: Zara, Necklace: Bershka, Heels: Unbranded) MUN: Model United Nations forum of TSR which roleplays the actual UN. Finally, I'm posting again. Sorry guys, I had MUN half of last week so I did not have time to post any outfit pictures :( I'll see if I can do some style tips post to make up for it though. Apart from MUN, it has been really quite uneventful. Graduation is closing in very, very quickly - well, more importantly also, my final exams. So I'm really sorry if I keep missing and not posting because it is getting really busy and I just never have time :( So bear with me! Don't forget to hype on Lookbook and teenvogue below!

IDS Cocktail Party

A few weeks ago I attended the Interior Design Show Cocktail Party in Toronto! This event is like the Fashion Week of interior design! Since I work in the industry, I attended the show with my boss. I loved seeing the up and coming trends for this year – and let me tell you – fashion and interior design go just as well as food and fashion!

Attending the Cocktail Party allows you to taste some of the best food & beverages that Toronto has to offer, which included Montreal smoked meat sandwiches, pizza, macarons from MoRoCo Chocolat, apricot beer, pasta dishes from a new pasta chain called Pasta Licious, mango sorbet, waffles and much much more! Here are some snap shots from the party! ~ Love C

Bons Off Broadway: Grease-tacular Breakfast

Bon’s Off Broadway is known for their super cheap $2.95 breakfasts and has been a popular place for University students to eat ridiculously cheap food. The interior has lots of space.

They have been around for a long time and it’s just a good place to get cheap food.

Coffee is the normal black drip coffee. It’s definitely a must for the tired people of the world. It was hard getting a refill since the service wasn’t very good, so it was hard to flag down a server.

Corn Beef hash with a side of bacon was quite large! It comes with a few slices of toast and a mountain of potatoes, onions and corned beef slices. I also ordered bacon on the side too. The food was quite average and greasy, but I was super stuffed by the end of the meal.

Overall, the food isn’t super amazing, but you do get what you pay for. The service is a bit lacking, but they are quite busy in the mornings and on weekends.

Words of Wisdom: Very affordable and cheap! Under $10 Free parking in the residential area Large portions We Rate Bon’s Off Broadway:

The Famous Warehouse

"Gangster shot at the Sheraton Wall Centre" was the headline in the newspaper. Oh that's just great. One day later, we were supposed to attend a conference there. Well, I guess after that, it would probably be the safest hotel out there due to the attention it received. I knew one thing was for sure: we weren't going to eat at the hotel restaurant! Despite this, I heard the food is to die for... Sorry, bad joke. Where we did end up eating lunch, which was The Famous Warehouse, should've been a crime within itself. Everything on the menu is only $4.95. Seems like an unreal steal of a deal eh? Makes you think of the Ikea commercial where the lady thinks she got something cheaper than it really was. "Start the car!" The most popular item it seems is their burgers, so there was no choice to what I would order despite 2 other burgers at the table (apparently they weren't going to share!). I chose the Mushroom Jack Burger consisting of premium Alberta beef, tomato, lettuce, pickle, sauteed mushrooms, gravy, macho sauce and Monterey jack on a brioche bun. Considering the price, this was a decent burger. I found the beef rather juicy for being cooked all-the-way-through. It was nicely seasoned as well. I liked how they didn't skimp on the ingredients despite the low cost. Hence, it was a solid burger that had good textures and flavours. Only thing I would've liked was a more moist bun. Seeing how everyone was already having their peppered fries, I substituted mine for the Warehouse Poutine. Unfortunately, mine was a little bit cold by the time it arrived. For a non-traditional poutine (see the cheese), it was okay. The gravy had enough flavour while the fries were a touch limp. I think if they omitted the pepper, the poutine would've been better since that is all I could taste. Ma had the Mama T's Crunchy Mac 'n Cheese (is that ironic?). Boy this was a large portion for the price (notice the trend?). Arriving with 2 large pieces of focaccia, this was a concoction of cheddar, mozzarella, alfredo, cornflakes, thyme and a Parmesan crust. This was decently cheesy with a nice contrast of textures. Once again, not bad for $4.95! Another item at the table was the Crispy Chicken Caesar Wrap. This was stuffed with fried chicken strips, crisp romaine, maple bacon, Parmesan cheese within a red tortilla. Although a wrap is hardly something to rave about, it was indeed solid. The chicken was moist and crispy at the same time while there was just enough dressing. Didn't hurt that there was crispy bacon either. All of us were pretty satisfied with our meals and that was not taking into account of the cost either. Of course when you start adding extras and ordering booze, the price starts to climb. Yet, if you stay conservative, eating at the Famous Warehouse could cost you about the same as going to McD's. The Good: - Cheap (everything is $4.95) - Food is more than acceptable (even when not looking at the prices) - The service we got was good The Bad: - If you start adding extras or like to booze it up, it is no longer that cheap

The Grocery, Charleston, SC

Put This On Your Dining List Just off King Street on Cannon Street is one of Charleston’s newest restaurants, The Grocery.  If I am capturing this correctly The Grocery is designed to reflect grocery stores of long ago. Where people came to chat, set a spell, break bread together, share stories, food and visit.  We did just that. Joined by another couple all four of us were a tad nervous when we entered the restaurant and there were just a few tables seated. Ut-oh, we thought, this could have been a bad choice.  An empty restaurant is never a good sign. Boy, were we mistaken.

I have to say that our server was one of the most knowledgeable that we’ve come across here in the Low Country.  She had a casual, easy going style while suggesting menu items, but certainly didn’t push us, which was nice.  After she explained The Grocery’s concept we started to review the menu to see what we would “share” at the table.

The menu is divided into “snacks”, “bites”, “tastes”, “plates”, “table”,  and “side” options.  As you go through the options they escalate in price. We decided to choose a few things from the “snacks” ($4-$13) and “bites” ($9-$13).  Our server explained that the portions would be on the small side, which good to know.

When our appetizers arrived it was nice to see that a lot of thought was put into what they would be served in. No white plate ware at this place.  The plating on crocks, old fashioned coke bottles and casserole dishes did not go unnoticed.  It actually was a great touch.

We were all hungry  and ordered several appetizers.  The Charred Onion Dip with Kettle Chips was outstanding - a great flavor, but not over powering. The homemade kettle chips were also terrific.  Charred Onion Dip with Kettle Chips The Fried Oysters were also a plus.  Placed back in their shells with a spicy deviled egg sauce and topped with sweet house made pickles was a great compliment.  The ‘Piggy Plate’ though, stole the show. Fried Oysters On a small ‘pig shaped’ cutting board arrived some of the best items of the evening.  House made ‘City Ham’,  pork cheeks, mortadella, and pates along with sweet and sour pickles, pickled radishes, crostini and hearty grain mustard were to die for.  This is an item I would highly recommend since we almost fought over the last pieces. Piggy Plate Piggy Plate Condiments Unfortunately the ‘Crispy Pimento Cheese’ was overcooked, small cheese balls that were mostly breading and not-much cheese.  I would pass on this bite.  They had zero flavor at best. Crispy Pimento Cheese  Our entrees were selected from the “tastes” section of the menu.  Again the presentation was impressive.  I had the Pappardelle, Pancetta, Parsley and Poached Egg dish which was served in a small crock like dish and looked beautiful.

For some reason I thought that the egg would be incorporated into the dish but it wasn’t and it sat on top of the pasta.  Our server told us that it was “their take on a carbonara” and to mix the egg into the pasta.  Being not my cup of tea I passed on this option.  Although flavorful the dish was over seasoned with pepper and the pasta was overcooked.  Pappardelle The Tile Fish special dish of the evening was perfectly cooked and served with brussel sprouts.  Although the server informed us that the “tastes” section of the menu would be “about 4 ounces” that’s a lot smaller than you’d think.  Our entrees, though tasty, were also tiny for the price. Tile Fish The Beef Short Ribs were fall-off-the bone tender, though miniscule. The bone marrow served on the side did not receive any positive reviews, but that’s just a matter of personal taste.  Beef Short Rib Lastly, the ‘suggestion’ of Lamb Shoulder with Chick Peas and Sautéed Greens was flavorful, but again, very small (mostly shoulder and not a lot of lamb). There was also a piece of house made sausage on the plate that was very good, but didn’t seem to be a good match for the dish. Lamb Shoulder I guess you could say that about all of our dishes. The accompanying items to our entrees made us wonder how they “fit” with the main items on the plate. Not that they didn't taste good, they just didn’t seem to fit with the entrees.

We also shared a Cauliflower Casserole and Roasted Root Vegetables as side dishes that were ample for the table - pricey, but ample ($8.00 each). Roasted Root Vegetable Cauliflower Casserole All in all I liked The Grocery a bunch.  I do, however feel that their “Tastes” section of the menu are overpriced.  The Tile Fish special was smaller than a deck of cards and my pasta was about ¾ of a cup. My advice would be to stick with the “Snacks” and “Bites”.

BTW our concerns when we first arrived and the restaurant was empty were quickly squashed.  By the time we left the restaurant was packed and on a wait list.  Add The Grocery to your list of restaurants to try!!

We gave The Grocery 4 out of a possible 5 platesZagat Tags; #tidal #restaurant

La Boulangerie

Chocolate Almond Croissant

How most girls feel about designer shoe boutiques is how I feel about bakeries.

I gawk at the artistry, I’m enchanted by the selection and it’s hard to settle on a single item. There should be a fifth member of the Sex and the City crew who’s a foodie searching out places like the Big Gay Ice Cream and Prune for the best eats in NYC. In stilettos no less.

On this dreadful Monday I would give a pair of Jimmy Choos for a Chocolate Almond Croissant and cappuccino. I’ve been fantasizing about La Boulangerie.

La Boulangerie is a french bakery located Uptown in the heart of Magazine street among trendy, quirky shops. A welcome respite from Creole and Cajun food (although not necessarily lighter) they offer sandwiches, breads, soup, quiche, coffee and of course, pastries.

During our annual New Orleans trip, despite having eaten a continental breakfast at Avenue Inn, my mom and I fueled up for a day of shopping with a snack at La Boulangerie. Stumbling upon it’s pretty gold and blue awning, we popped in and took our place in line. Pouncing on an open table, I sat while my mom ordered so I have no opinion about the service.

We split a Chocolate Almond Croissant and I soaked up each bite accompanied by sips of a single shot cappuccino. The croissant was filled with sweet almond paste and chocolate, which I would have preferred more of, but then again who doesn’t like more chocolate. The substantial pastry was tender, flaky and strewn with almond slices.

Much like Sucre and other area bakeries, they offer special King Cakes during Mardi Gras season, both a traditional and French version. I was tempted to buy one, but the thought of lugging around a cake box and then five extra pounds post-consumption was a strong deterrent. Needless to say, everything looks and smells heavenly.

I believe La Boulangerie now accepts credit cards and cash, but I didn’t pay for this round. Get there early because like a secret sample sale, the good stuff runs out fast.

Don’t just take my word for it, New Orleans food bloggers Foodographer and The Hungry Nomad have also written about their experiences, in addition to the Cynical Cook. If you liked this post, read more of my Restaurant Stories.
