BEACH BUM

Madewell sweater, H&M sunnies

Along with my staple white, I love injecting ensembles with lively doses of neon. I couldn't really pass up on this lightweight summer sweater, a combination of my favorites: a neon yellow, white, and breathable linen (similar MadewellJoieVinceEquipmentFeel the PieceJean Paul GautierBanjo & Matilda sweaters). A few posts back, I showed you samplings of what neon accessories I would pair with all-white ensembles here, dealt with a heavy hand of Marc Jacobs' signature electric hues. Looking to eventually invest in a summer crossbody for a hint of color as well!  These photos were all taken at Hermosa beach. I have been staying at a friend's house in Palos Verdes for a few days before heading back home to Shanghai. A much-needed break from the stress of packing and finals, we've been letting the sun consume us, taking long drives with the radio repeating our not-so-favorite songs, and eating a buttload of Asian food (aka boba, green tea mochi, sushi). I'm actually writing this from the sauna right now, and I've been able to take a quasi-detox from the internet and social media, only using my laptop for around an hour a day. So, yes, like the sign says, I am in paradise.                           Visit: on Lookbook | on Twitter | on Bloglovin' | on Instagram | on Youtube | on Facebook | on Tumblr

Life Lately On Instagram

Outfit://Dress - MPT//Loafers - Zara//Bag - c/o iamshopaholicmom_macau//Sunnies - Romwe, c/o catsuit-latex//

I'm overly active in instagram lately. By far it's still the only social networking I'm addicted to (twitter and facebook not even close). What a waste if I didn't share these little snapshots with you because truth be told, my life is actually better documented in this app than my blog. So take note, these "Life lately on instagram" posts will be permanently recurring from time to time. Besides, they make up for a good alternative whenever I haven't any outfit post prepared, like today.

So my life... well, it's been crazy lately. Almost a month has passed since we moved to the new place but I'm still not used to it. I wake up everyday thinking we're still 10 minutes away from everything just to realize we're not, and then I have to always rush; my morning routines ruined; in the first few days I was almost always constantly late for work and school because I was used to having the bus station right at the bottom of the building where we used to live in; all the buses were accessible. From here, I have to walk at least 5 minutes to the closest bus station that goes directly to work or school, otherwise I have to transfer buses which take longer. There aren't any close-by stores like 7/11 or groceries. I'm used to buying breakfast right before catching the bus to school or work, but here, its impossible. I don't know. Maybe I need a few more weeks to get used to this.

On another note, I'm having a little unearthing of feelings being able to have new friends, getting reunited with an old one, and then getting closer with another. I feel refreshed and I see more possibilities. In this world, finding real friends have become quite rare, and being the anti-social that I am (yep, that' right), it's even more difficult. Aside from Penguin and Desiree who's miles away from me, there are only a few others that I can actually consider for real, Chezka included. Sadly, I had to learn this from bitter experiences. So with that, it's better to start keeping.

Apart from the above, this month consisted of a few interesting happenings: Penguin and I celebrated our 5th anniversary (which you can read about here); Did the last event project that I'll ever have to do for college; partied with my classmates possibly for the first and last time ever, where  unexpectedly Penguin and I enjoyed, and went nuts over the excess food, taking home boxes of pizza because we just had too much; Went on a spontaneous excursion to Hong Kong where I went all out and decided to just spend the amount that I planned to save for the trip this summer; and... got to watch a burlesque show which cost $7800 a table as perks of the job. I tell you we have an awesome boss, though I wish he'd do this kind of incentives more often, ha!

Anyway, this post has become a lot longer than expected. I just had to rant. But I'm stopping now and leaving you to enjoy the rest of the photos after the jump. Click below to see!

{GBF Life + Style + Travel} New Shanghai

I've been in Shanghai for almost a week and have been running around town meeting up with friends and family while taking in the city. Every meal is deliciously extravagant and is contributing to a happily expanding waistline. Conversations with family revolves around the retelling of childhood stories. Although I've heard all of them a million times, they tell it like it's being divulged for the very first time. It's nice. With my friends, I've been asking a million questions about the city as I'm intently determined to crack the code on what is/who is Shanghai. I'm still in the facts gathering stage.

The city changes at lightning speed. It's impossible to keep count of the countless new buildings that have popped up since my visit four years ago. The effect of globalization means boutiques carry the latest Korean trends, the cafes are Taiwanese and Hong Kong franchises, the girls wear Japanese circle lens, and everyone has an iPhone. I feel a little lost here as the identity of my hometown has completely changed since I left. I'm proud of its progress but a little sad that I can no longer find home.

This outfit has little to do with Shanghai. It's simply one of my favorites for summer rooftop cocktail parties. The green BCBG gown is flowy and delicate and needed to be paired with an equally flowy and delicate One Teaspoon silk shawl. Together, they exude a sense of boho spirit that's difficult to find in dressier clothes. My Shoedazzle heels add another layer of color to the outfit.

Mixing some of my basics for a go-to look.

I love and reuse and reuse and reuse all of these pieces I am wearing. They are perfect for some many outfits that I cannot get enough of them. Some clothing you tend to use once maybe twice and forget about it as it is buried in your closet because it can be hard to style it in a different way than how you have worn it before. This is why I like investing in quality basics so that I can keep using something but make a different look each time.

As I am sure you know I looove my denim vest. Especially since the weather is changing, I'll start to use it even more as an easy layer for dresses or other outfits. Then we have my spiked loafers and I have worn them 100 times and counting on the blog. They really go with any outfit and are perfect to give an extra edge to my look. Next we have my tuxedo pants, that may be just a trend for some, but they are here to stay for me. And I am sure you know how obsessed I am with white shirts and this one is no exception. Now we have a subtle red lip and I was good to go!

What are some of your favorite pieces?

Happy Tuesday!

Danielle

NEBULOUS LOOP

(Forever 21 top (similar one from Revolve Clothing), Uniqlo jeans, knockoff YSL ring)

My hair is something I don't fuss much about because luckily, it is quite easy to handle. I was born with the straightest, pitch black hair that grew all the way down to my mid back. My brother would joke and say that my hair should be used in shampoo, hair flipping commercials. It was a joke that I took as a compliment. Just like any other girl, when we have one thing, we always want the contrary. Meaning, I always wanted curly hair. It wasn't easy for me though since my hair was pin straight, hot rollers and curling irons don't work on my head of hair. I would sit patiently and mind every move I make when my mom help me set the hot rollers in so I don't mess up the temporary wish of having black locks. After an hour of waiting, I let my hair down from the heat and, *drum roll* - hello straight hair!

After that time, my mom took me to the hair salon and I got my first 6 hour sit in front of a big lit up mirror with people dressed in hip black clothes walking around pushing their handy equipment charts around which stored their own mini suitcase of scissors. From then on, I was attached to my curly hair

I check into the hair salon every half a year. I would get a cut with layers and then ask for a set perm for my whole head. My hair through the first week after the perm will be extra curled but that will be the confirmation that your money spent didn't go to waste because the curls will last for at least 6 months.

This is the 6 month mark for me and I am feeling ready for a fresh length and perm

Details from Behind

I love the soft touch of buttons on the back of the shirt to add something extra to this basic tee.

Subtle details can have an impact, but are not overpowering. Some details are perfect for a basic outfit because it makes the whole look more interesting. I am also lovingggg this pink skull scarf. How punk, yet chic are these little skulls?!! Plus the neon pink is a great touch to make such a grungy symbol girly. I added these green pants to mix some primary colors together and I was finally able to let my toes out! Though they are rather pale, the sun will soon give them some color.

Happy Monday!

CREATURE OF COMFORT

Zara jeans, American Apparel backpack

Margaret over at Shine by Three mentioned the other day that boyfriend jeans are the best for the plane, and I could not agree more. They are my go-to plane pants - suffice to say, these too-big denim pants are the equivalent of my day sweatpants. Once you start wearing them, you'll never go back. I'm 100% serious. And contrary to what you think, I promise that you'll look great in them, no matter what height you are! You can always slip on some heels or platforms if you're worried about the lack of structure above the feet.

I will be lounging in these in four days to catch a flight back to Shanghai! I am finally free of finals, and am so excited to catch up with friends, family, and sleep. This past week has been somewhat brutal, and in the midst of packing and storing my stuff for the summer (it took about 20 hours), I felt this tremendous frustration with the massive monstrosity that is my possessions - honestly, who needs that much stuff, Stephanie?

On another note, I'm delighted to share with you all a screenshot from the Zara website - I've been featured in their Zara People! section. It's such an honor, especially because I'm a huge fan.
